This Section brings together leading scientists and young researchers working on the control of micro- and nano- objects, suspended by optical, electric or magnetic forces. The most recent experimental and theoretical advances will be discussed with an outlook to fundamental experiments and technological applications.
Trapped miniature particles offer a promising route towards achieving unprecedent sensing and manipulation capabilities. This Special Section will focus on the aspects of optomechanics that are unique to these small and highly controllable mechanical systems. Well established platforms along with promising new proposals for biotechnologies at the interface of nanophysics and biophotonics will be discussed.

Francisco J. Rodriguez Fortuno

King's College London

Francisco J. Rodríguez-Fortuño is Senior Lecturer at King's College London Physics Department, where he is researching on nanophotonics, plasmonic devices, spin-orbit interactions of light, optical forces, nanoantennas, metamaterials and new electromagnetic phenomena. Francisco earned his Telecommunications Engineering BSc, MSc and PhD at Universitat Politecnica de Valencia, Spain, with long research stays at University of Pennsylvania and King's College London, where he became a postdoc and later obtained a permanent academic position in 2015. Francisco is author of 48 research papers on international journals, h-index 21 (Google Scholar), and is PI on ERC Starting Grant PSINFONI.
